Glazing
Our team of skilled glaziers deliver superior craftsmanship for all commercial glass needs -- from emergency reglazing to full curtain wall panel replacement.
Overview
Commercial glazing requires a combination of technical glass knowledge, high-access capability, and precision installation methodology. Allied Commercial brings all three disciplines together in-house, enabling us to handle everything from a single cracked pane on Level 30 to a full curtain wall remediation programme spanning hundreds of panels.
We source replacement glass from approved Australian manufacturers and international suppliers, matching existing glass specifications for thickness, tint, coating (Low-E, solar control), interlayer type (PVB, SGP), and edge treatment. For heritage buildings, we source period-appropriate glass profiles. For modern commercial towers, we specify to the original curtain wall system manufacturer's requirements to maintain facade performance and warranty.
Our access methodology is selected to minimise cost and disruption. Single-panel replacements are typically completed via rope access or Building Maintenance Unit (BMU), avoiding scaffolding entirely. For larger programmes, we may deploy Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs) or purpose-designed suspended scaffolds. Where panels are located on undersides of facades or in geometrically complex positions, crane-assisted installation with engineered lifting frames is used -- as demonstrated on our 275 Grey Street project.
Every glazing installation is sealed in accordance with AS 4667 and tested for water penetration where required. We issue manufacturer warranties on all glass products and workmanship warranties on installation.

Industry Standards
Australian Standards compliance
Governs glass type selection (toughened, laminated, annealed), minimum thickness, and installation requirements for all commercial glazing. Mandatory compliance for any glass replacement.
Defines performance testing requirements for facade systems including water penetration, air infiltration, and structural adequacy under wind loading.
Specifies quality and tolerance requirements for glass cutting, edge treatment, and processing that we enforce with our glass suppliers.
Wind loading calculations determine the required glass thickness and fixing specifications, particularly for high-rise facades exposed to significant wind pressures.
All glazing installations must maintain the weatherproofing performance requirements of the National Construction Code.

Delivery Process
How we deliver
Glass Assessment & Specification
We identify the exact glass type, unit build-up (monolithic, laminated, IGU), dimensions, coating, and interlayer type. A replacement specification is prepared matching the original or upgrading to current AS 1288 requirements.
Access & Methodology Planning
The optimal access method is selected based on height, location, panel weight, and site constraints. Traffic management, exclusion zones, and lift plans are prepared where crane operations are required.
Removal & Installation
Damaged glass is carefully removed with vacuum cups and lowered safely. The rebate is cleaned, new sealant or gaskets are applied, and the replacement panel is installed and sealed to AS 4667 requirements.
Testing & Handover
Sealant cure time is observed, water testing is performed where specified, and manufacturer warranty documents are registered and issued to the building owner.
FAQ
Common questions
How quickly can you replace broken glass on a high-rise?
Emergency board-ups are completed within hours of your call -- we maintain stocks of standard-sized boarding materials and our rope access team can mobilise immediately. Permanent replacement depends on the glass type: standard clear toughened glass is often available same-week from local suppliers. Specialty glass such as IGUs (double-glazed units), Low-E coated panels, or custom-tinted glass may take 2-4 weeks to manufacture. For buildings with known glass types, we can pre-order replacement stock to minimise future lead times.
What access methods do you use for high-rise glazing?
We select the safest and most cost-effective access method for each project. Rope access is used for single-panel replacements where the panel can be handled by two technicians -- it is fast, low-cost, and requires no road closures. BMU (Building Maintenance Unit) is used where the building has a permanent roof-mounted access machine. EWPs (boom lifts) are used for mid-rise buildings where ground-level access is available. Crane-assisted installation is used for heavy panels, undersides of facades, or geometrically complex locations where rope access is not feasible -- as we demonstrated at 275 Grey Street, South Brisbane.
Do you match existing glass exactly?
Yes. We take a sample or reference the original specifications to match thickness, tint, coating type (Low-E, solar control), interlayer (PVB, SGP), and edge treatment. For curtain wall systems, we work with the original system manufacturer (Schuco, Capral, Alspec, G.James, etc.) to ensure the replacement panel is compatible with the framing system. For heritage buildings, we source period-appropriate glass profiles from specialist suppliers.
